Google Update Algorithm April 21st

On the 21st of April Google will release another infamous update to their algorithm in which they will be penalising websites that are not mobile friendly.

How do you determine if your website is mobile friendly?

1. Avoid software not compatible with mobiles for example ‘Flash’

2. Is your website text readable without pinch zooming in or out?

3. Do you have to scroll from left to right to see the full page?

4. Is it easy to use your fingers to navigate the screen?

Still unsure? Click the link below and it will take you to the Google Webmaster page where you can type in your URL and Google will give you the Yes or No.

If you don’t have a mobile friendly site you can do either of the following:

1. Build a Separate Mobile Website

– It will be a complete separate website to your desktop

– You will need to manage two different sites

– They will have separate domains

– They will each have separate links for mobile and desktop

– Mobile only website design are designed for only one screen size

2. Get a Responsive Design Web Site

– One web site that responds to the device screen size

– One web site with one domain

– Designed for multiple screens

I highly recommend a responsive design site, mobile is an option but I feel its more of a patch job. If you’re going to make the effort to become mobile friendly, then why not go the whole hog and get a responsive design site? The technology is cutting edge and it will ensure your site will be future proofed.
